Congratulations to Raveena Lakhtaria – Mrs Austin writes:

I am delighted to announce that Raveena Lakhtaria (Lower sixth) has been selected for the England Cricket Academy. She went through a selection process for four days at the performance centre in Loughborough at which 31 girls were competing nationally. Only two girls were selected and Raveena was one of them.  She has now been called for a further high performance training session at Loughborough from 13th to 15th March 2010.  We wish her every success.

Congratulations to the Senior 1’s on a triumphant win on the last day of the academic year to claim the Brent Cup Cricket U12 championship. The Senior 1’s who traditionally have less experience as they step up to the Senior School had pleasantly surprised the form book by competing very well in all of their matches. Despite an early loss to Claremont they went on to record victories over John Kelly, Capital City, Copland and Queens Park to ensure a final place at their first attempt. The final itself was held at Kenton Cricket Club against Claremont High School who had beaten the Swaminarayan Boys decisively in the preliminary rounds.

Jaisin Patel (Captain) S2 writes:
“We were all excited as Mr Pinto took us to the final. We had already lost to Claremont once so we wanted to pull our socks up and win this one. I lost the toss and so we had to bat. Our opening batsman didn’t do very well and so the pressure was on. However, Mayur Patel came in and steadied the ship with 36 runs partnered by Bhavin Patel. Ultimately, we scraped to 94 runs which was a huge improvement on the 48 we had scored against Claremont previously.
We then had a great half time talk from our manager Mr Pinto who asked us to imagine we had the trophy in our hands and imagine it slipping away. He asked us how we would feel and that spurred us on. We were really up for it! Avnit Patel was our opening bowler and got a wicket on his second ball and 4 wickets in total. Kirtan Chag got another, Mayur Patel 2 more and Harshil Patel also got 2 and we soon had Claremont on the rack. They were really feeling the pressure when on the last over they needed 7 to win with the pressure on our bowler Saurabh Patel. Off the last ball they needed 2 to win and had to go for it but we managed to run them out which meant we won the Brent Cup.”

The school has now won 5 Cricket trophies in the last seven years and this is a testament to the commitment and vigour that the boys are putting in to their competitive sport.
